Societatis Lingua Artes (SOLARES), an official co-curricular organization of the Department of Communications, Linguistics, and Literature (DCLL), conducted its second general assembly to discuss their accomplishments for the first semester of A.Y. 2023-2024 at the Rigney Hall in USC Talamban Campus last Saturday, December 2, 2023. 

SOLARES President and Communication major in Media student K-Jay Remoto discussed the events that transpired since the beginning of the semester, including the inflow and outflow of the organization’s budget, followed by the discussion of financial reports and updates from the different sub-organizations under SOLARES. 

Remoto mentioned that SOLARES as a whole has P115.83 left in their budget as of November 11, 2028. 

Pulong sa mga Alagad sa Obra (PALABRA) Vice President and Literature and Cultural Studies student Gian Marcko Capitan reported that their organization has P8,925.50 left in their budget as of December 2, 2023.

Society of Language Enthusiasts President (SOLE) and English Language Studies student Katrina Evardo said that their organization has P11,280 left in their budget at present.

Evardo also mentioned that SOLE’s future events are Ling Socials, the ELS Summit, SAS Week Events, and collaborations with various student organizations.

Carolinian Communication Society (CCS) President, SOLARES Executive Committee Member, and Communication major in Media student, Ethan Daniel Dublin, discussed how communication students can participate with CCS-initiated Community Extension Services (CES) such as StewCOMM and Bulawanong Tunob to garner CES points. 

Dublin transparently stated that presently, their organization has P120 left in their budget.

Halangdon editor-in-chief and English Language Studies student Arcturus Jerome Gonzales introduced Halangdon as the first and official publication of DCLL and discussed “launching” into a print magazine as part of their future plans. 

Gonzales encouraged students to apply as Halangdon writers, social media managers, website managers, photojournalists, graphic artists, illustrators, and a finance officer. 

Incumbent DCLL Chairperson Kenneth G. Opina confirmed that this December is going to be his last month as the DCLL Chairperson as he pursues a different path. 

Chairperson Opina hoped that the DCLL students would remain supportive of the new DCLL chairperson. 

He also mentioned that he will remain the adviser of SOLARES in the next semester.
