Sublimity in print.

SOLARES held its first art festival titled ‘Sulyap sa Sining’ at the Ayala Central Bloc Activity Center, featuring DCLL student writers, painters, filmmakers, and photographers alongside other Cebuano artists in a celebration of artistic expression. The event began its first day on Thursday, April 18, 2024 and is set to conclude today Saturday, April 20.

The festival featured a colorful variety of booths selling stickers, pins, art prints, paintings, photographs, books, and other creations by artists found all throughout Cebu.

“They were really accommodating…  I would say that there were times that I would get overwhelmed but it was really exciting seeing everyone get together with local artists and invited guests.”

 – Mycah Miel, one of the featured artists regarding the event

The art festival began in the afternoon with an opening speech by the DCLL Chair Dr. Marisse Tan, who congratulated the organizers and encouraged a continued passion and love for the arts, especially a strong support for the local art scene. Accompanied by SOLARES President K-jay Remoto and SOLARES Adviser Sir Kenneth Opina, Dr. Tan led the ribbon cutting ceremony which.

The program momentum continued with the dance group Binibini, whose name is based on the P-pop girl group ‘Bini’, featuring the talents of Sebby Alberca, Valerie Grace Batidor, Chinelle May Branzuela, Rheana Santillan, Ashley Robyn Alvarez, Alexia Chinnel Rivera, Jestalle Marie Barranco, Miracle Grace Urbiztondo, Cindy Lou Samson, and Joed Eirol Dacuyasan, who all dazzled the crowd with their cute and peppy dance number.

The intermission was soon followed by the beautiful lyrical performances of Mai Caballes, Alexa Lerio, and Ethan Daniel Dublin who held center stage.

A panel discussion was held featuring Nessa Abayon from AHKA Sari-sari Space, Stephanie Tudtud from Making Space, and Edel Tribiana from Strap Cebu, all who are committed to promoting and cultivating creativity and a distinct culture for the arts within Cebu.

SOLARES President K-jay Remoto expressed pride to the organizers and volunteers who overcame the first day despite its challenges. Remoto was pleased with the audience turnout and has high hopes that in the creation of Sulyap sa Sining, it would likewise boost the turnout for enrollees in DCLL for the next academic year.
